What USCIS requires from a foreign-language document
Submit a full English translation of every foreign-language document you send to USCIS. Include the translator’s written confirmation that the translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate into English. See 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): translation requirement.
USCIS family-petition instructions (Form I-130) ask for the translator’s name, signature, date and contact details. Check the instructions for your own form before submitting.
The certificate confirms the translation’s accuracy. It does not verify that the original document is genuine or guarantee approval of your application. If your receiving authority specifically asks for notarization or an apostille, share its instructions with us; these do not replace the translation certificate.
Statements can have different evidence roles
USCIS family-petition instructions discuss third-party affidavits among evidence concerning a marital relationship. Other instructions and the evidence regulation address affidavits in circumstances where required primary and secondary evidence is unavailable. These are distinct contexts, not permission to replace any official record with a statement.
The statement’s purpose and sufficiency depend on the filing and facts. Confirm what evidence is needed before ordering. Express Translate does not draft legal allegations, select witnesses or decide whether a statement meets the applicable evidentiary standard.

Translate the whole account
A full translation includes the title, writer’s identity, dates, places, relationships, numbered paragraphs and the account itself. Qualifiers such as what the writer saw, was told or believes should retain their meaning. They must not be turned into stronger factual assertions.
Signature blocks and notarial attachments
Include signature blocks, statements made under oath or affirmation, and notarial text where present. If an attachment forms part of the statement, identify it and provide it. A translator should not shorten repetitive passages merely because the main point seems clear.
Translator certification is not notarization of the affidavit
The translator’s certification addresses the translation and language competence. A notarial act on the source affidavit concerns that underlying document or its execution. Translating a notarial endorsement does not create a new notarization or mean the translator witnessed the statement being signed.
Separate oath and notarization requirements
Do not assume that paying for a translation resolves a separate requirement to swear, affirm or notarize the statement. Check the instructions for the intended evidence. This page does not offer a legal opinion on whether an unsigned declaration or a particular notarial form is sufficient.
Names, dates and the writer’s knowledge
Keep the writer’s full name, address or other identifying information shown in the document visible. Dates can distinguish the event described from the date the statement was made or signed. Where several people appear in the account, their roles should remain clear.
Provide passport spelling references for names when helpful and flag inconsistent spellings without altering the source. If the author needs to correct a factual error, obtain the corrected source statement. Translation is not a way to rewrite testimony or remove an inconvenient sentence.
Upload and common-issue checklist
Send a clear copy of every page, including the last page with signatures and any reverse-side endorsement. Keep paragraph numbering and attached exhibits in order. Indicate whether several files are separate statements from different people or parts of one statement.
Missing pages and unreadable additions
Check for an absent signature page, cut-off handwritten additions and a missing notarial attachment. We mark unreadable text as “illegible” and then consult you. Do not supply a paraphrase instead of a clearer image when the exact source wording is needed.

Files are retained for 6 months. You can request earlier deletion by contacting our team. Revisions are free and unlimited. If an issue cannot be resolved, we provide a refund. Request support or a revision through your customer panel.

Does translator certification notarize my affidavit?
No. Certification of a translation and notarization of the underlying affidavit are separate acts with different purposes.
Can you translate an unsigned statement?
The text supplied can be translated, but translation does not make an unsigned statement signed or establish that it is sufficient evidence. Check the receiving authority’s requirements.
Can an affidavit replace my missing birth certificate?
Not automatically. USCIS has rules concerning unavailable primary and secondary evidence. Whether an affidavit is appropriate requires the applicable instructions and circumstances.
Will the notary’s wording be translated?
Yes, when it appears in the supplied document and is readable. This translates the endorsement; it does not perform a new notarial act.
Can you improve the author’s factual account?
No. We translate the account provided without inventing facts, strengthening claims or removing qualifications. The author must correct the source if necessary.
Should I include attached exhibits?
Include attachments that form part of the statement you need translated and identify them clearly. We cannot reconstruct an exhibit that is not supplied.
